Plant-powered Pop-Up || Bazaar and food sampling

The Office of Environmental Sustainability held its first ever plant-based food pop-up event during lunch time on 04 October 2019. The aim of the pop-up was to spread awareness about the environmental benefits of adopting a more plant-based diet. The pop-up had two components: a bazaar and food sampling.

NUS for Climate Action 2018 – Student Video Competition Winner

NUS for Climate Action 2018 was a series of movie screening, competitions, talks and a roadshow on making NUS a greener, sustainable campus as well as addressing climate change. As part of this series, a video competition for students was held. This is the winning entry submitted by Russell Chin Kim Chye. Congratulations!

NUS x NEA Preparing Students for a Sustainable Future Workshop || Games for Change

Our future is increasingly more volatile and unpredictable due to the risks posed by climate change. To prepare students for our increasingly unpredictable future, in collaboration with Lloyd’s Register Foundation Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk (LRFI) and the National Environment Agency (NEA), the Office of Environmental Sustainability co-organised a workshop on the morning of 19 January 2019 at the Singapore Sustainability Academy.

NUS Climate Action Month

In line with the Year of Climate Action, more awareness and outreach activities were organised to encourage the 11,000 students staying in the 15 residences on campus to reduce energy and water consumption, and waste. The “NUS Climate Action Month”, comprising a series of activities to raise awareness about climate change to staff and students, was also organised in March 2018.

Operation Lifehack 2.0 – The Sustainability Edition

In partnership with The Aviva Digital Garage and NUS Enterprise, OES co-hosted a hackathon for NUS students. The challenge – to solve problems relating to three of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals: Good Health & Well-being, Sustainable Cities & Communities, and Climate Action.

sustainABLE NUS Showcase 2017

Held at University Town from 29 to 30 August 2017, the sustainABLE NUS Showcase was NUS’ inaugural event to highlight actions the University is taking to transform NUS into a greener campus, as well as the University’s efforts in research and education to meet sustainability challenges of today and the future.

Food Production and Climate Change

In the public consciousness, climate change is usually linked to the burning of fossil fuels for transport and electricity production. However, an often overlooked, but no less important contributor to climate change is food production. ‘Food Production and Climate Change’ was a series of events that aimed to introduce the impacts of food production on climate change and how individuals can mitigate these impacts.

World Food Week 2016

World Food Week was a sustainABLE NUS initiative to commemorate World Food Day on 16 October 2016, which in turn commemorates the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. World Food Week aimed to educate and raise awareness on sustainability issues related to food, as well as the health and cultural significance of food.
