Seminar: The Key Roles of Surface Waves in Typhoon, Ocean and Climate Prediction

Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute Singapore

DETAILS
  EA 06-03 Seminar Room
  Open to public
  Free

Ever wondered why forecasts can predict a typhoon’s path but not quite how powerful it will become? This seminar by Prof Dr Fangli Qiao dives into that problem by showing how ocean surface waves — especially breaking waves — can strongly affect typhoon intensity, ocean behavior, and climate models. It reveals why including the dynamic air-sea interface could be a game-changer for predicting rapid intensification and improving disaster preparedness.
